Adhesives for Rubber Mat

Adhesives for Rubber Matting: When and Why They’re Needed

In certain applications, using adhesive to secure rubber matting is essential for optimal performance and hygiene. Adhesives create a sealed bond between the mat and the surface, preventing moisture, urine, and debris from getting underneath. This not only eliminates unpleasant odors but also reduces the risk of bacteria breeding in hard-to-clean areas.

When Should You Use Adhesives?

  • Tailgates and Horse Floats: Glueing rubber matting is highly recommended to prevent liquids from seeping underneath and causing hygiene issues.
  • Horse Stables: Depending on the type of matting, adhesives may be required. For example:
    • Semi-Cured One-Piece Mats: These mats need to be glued down to prevent stretching over time and ensure long-term performance.
    • Interlocking Mats: These mats do not require adhesive, as they are designed to stay securely in place without glue.

Advantages of Glueing Mats Down

  • Creates a tight seal, preventing moisture and contaminants from accumulating underneath.
  • Improves hygiene by eliminating spaces where bacteria can thrive.
  • Provides a more permanent and secure solution for high-traffic or heavy-use areas.

When to Skip Adhesives
In some situations, you may prefer to leave mats unglued to allow for easy removal and cleaning underneath. This approach works well in areas where hygiene can be maintained without a permanent seal, or where mats need to be regularly repositioned or replaced.

A Tailored Approach
The decision to use adhesives depends on the type of matting and the specific application. While glueing mats down offers long-term benefits, such as a sealed, odor-free environment, it may not be necessary for all mat types or use cases. For example, our semi-cured one-piece mats should always be glued down for optimal performance, but interlocking mats can typically be installed without adhesive.
